At 12:30 pm, Lorraine German of Mad River Antiques will have a discussion about how women in early America crafted quilts not only for function but also as a way to express who they were. Lorraine began quilting 25 years ago; making quilts for her own use and for sale. Her personal love of quilting has added to her appreciation of the art and the women who made them.
Mad River Antiques is a member of the Antiques Dealers’ Association of America and the Cape Cod Antique Dealers Association. In addition, Lorraine is currently a member of the Sandisfield, MA History Book project. Their website is www.madriverantiques.com.

“The Sampler: A Little Masterpiece”

At 1:30 pm, Henry T. Callan, one of New England’s premier sampler dealers, will discuss the history behind the early American Sampler, explain the different types of samplers ranging from the 16th to the 19th centuries and describe the important elements of the sampler. Mr. Callan will also educate the public about building a personal sampler collection.
Mr. Callan is a member of the Cape Cod Antique Dealers Association and the New England Appraisers Association. He specializes in American Samplers and Chinese export porcelain and takes great pleasure in sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with individuals. He is located in East Sandwich, Ma.

“Pewter in New England, its Many Uses”

At 2:30 pm, Wayne Hilt will present “Pewter in New England, its Many Uses.” Mr. Hilt began his career with antiques in 1973 and specializes in the field of American and British Export Pewter and quality pewter restoration. He has participated in many important exhibits on antique pewter in Connecticut and New England and is one of the primary authors of the book, Collecting Antique Pewter, What to Look For and What to Avoid. Hilt is a past president of the New England Region of the Pewter Collectors Club of America, a past governor-at-large of the national Pewter Collectors Club of America and the former chairman of the committee on authenticity of the national organization.
